Dysbiosis from the clinician's perspective

Summary: The human body is not sterile. All the bacteria and fungi colonizing the mucous membranes and skin along with epithelial cells and the MALT system (mucosa associated lymphoid tissue) form a complex ecosystem. In the light of current knowledge, any dysfunction of this ecosystem is able to trigger and/or maintain chronic local inflammation with numerous systemic consequences. The paper discusses the clinical consequences of dysbiosis and potential options for its treatment and prevention.
Keywords: dysbiosis, biodiversity, antibiotic therapy
