Combination of β-blocker and angioentsin converting enzyme inhibitor in the treatment of hypertension – PTNT and ESC/ESH guidelines

Summary: Recent guidelines – both European and Polish recommend the use of b-blockers at every stage of hypertension treatment, if indications for the use of this group of drugs are identified. The authors of the guidelines emphasize that beta-blockers have an established place in the treatment of hypertension coexisting with coronary artery disease, after myocardial infarction, with heart failure or atrial fibrillation. They also point out the use of beta-blockers in patients with an increased heart rate above 80/min. The combination of an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor and a beta blocker has an important place in the treatment of hypertension in these clinical situations.
Keywords: hypertension, coronary artery disease, angiotensin II receptor inhibitor, β-blocker, perindopril, bisoprolol
