Measurement of blood pressure in a patient with obesity – practical tips
Summary:
The article shows that in obese patients it is necessary to strictly follow the principles of blood pressure measurement for the general population with special attention to the use of a validated device and a cuff sized to the arm circumference. The optimal choice is to use an M+L cuff. New options for measuring blood pressure in an obese person include the possibility of taking home blood pressure measurements at night with a wrist device and the use of devices with a so-called arrhythmia sensor or short ECG option to detect atrial fibrillation.
