Sarcopenia - what therapeutic interventions can we offer to older patients?
Summary:
Sarcopenia is a muscle disease that significantly more often affects older people with multi-morbidity and disabilities. It increases the risk of unfavorable medical events, deterioration of quality of life, and worse long-term survival prognoses. It is crucial to identify people at risk of developing sarcopenia and to implement appropriate preventive and therapeutic actions. Relevant physical activity and nutraceutical interventions are essential in this case. Targeted pharmacological interventions that could help reverse sarcopenia are still being explored.
