Summary:
The aim of the Asthma Zero initiative is to create a global movement with the main goal to improve the treatment of asthma, in particular reducing the excessive use of SABA as reliever, and ultimately improving the quality of life of millions of patients suffering from asthma around the world. This idea is consistent and synergistic with the revolutionary recommendations of the latest update of the GINA 2019 guidelines. In Poland, this project involves experts from the Polish Society of Allergology, the Polish Society of Lung Diseases, the Polish Society of Family Medicine, national and regional consultants in the field of allergology and pulmonology as well as representatives of the Federation of Asthma Patients. The next stages of work will include the collection and analysis of market data on the actual level of SABA, ICS and oral CS consumption in Poland, the assessment of the perception of asthma control concepts and the analysis of therapeutic regimes applied by specialists and primary care physicians. This will enable the planning of appropriate educational activities targeted at both medical personnel and patients. The priority is to optimize the control of asthma, reduce the burden resulting from the symptoms of the disease, decrease the number of exacerbations and, consequently, improve the quality of life of our patients.
